How to Make Handmade Envelopes
by cherie aleong - Saturday, 29 December 2007, 01:55 PM
Anyone in the world

By Kim Monaco Looking for an easy, family-friendly craft idea? Handcrafting envelopes is a very easy, fun and inexpensive craft project for all - adults and children. Only a few simple tools are needed to make an envelope - an envelope template (can be purchased at a store or created at home - read on!), pen or pencil, glue, scissors and paper.

The first step in making an envelope involves the envelope template. Envelope templates can be easily crafted at home. To make an envelope template at home, choose any size envelope, open it up and unglue the flaps - instant envelope template.
The second step to making handmade envelopes is quick and easy, too. Choose a piece of paper (any paper works!), and lay the envelope template on the paper. Trace the outline of the envelope template with a pencil or a pen on the chosen paper. The next simple step takes one back to kindergarten, use the scissors and cut along the drawn outline. Finally, just follow the template for where to fold and crease, use some glue to seal the flaps - be sure to leave an opening for the envelope contents! Stuff the handmade envelope with the contents and that's it!
Handmade envelopes can be created from a variety of papers for a unique look every time. Some paper examples include cardstock, construction paper, scrapbook paper, vellum, magazine pages, gift wrap, wallpaper, stamped paper - be creative and have fun with it! Make homemade envelopes in a variety of different sizes too. Envelopes can be gift enclosure sized to 9x12 large size or anything in between.
Handmade envelopes are a simple craft for anyone. Beware, creating handmade envelopes is addictive! How to Make Handmade Envelopes was written by Kim Monaco, a crafty mom and owner of Learn Crafts Online, a website devoted to bring out the crafter in everyone! Graphic Design Schools - Everything You Need To Know
by cherie aleong - Thursday, 27 December 2007, 03:56 PM
Anyone in the world

By John Morris A successful future in the new media industry (and specifically, graphic design) depends on choosing the right school. As a graduate student in this field myself, I will be able to provide you with the absolute best advice one can get in regards to this topic. 1. Area of Focus The first thing that you need to know about schools of this nature is that they are designed with everyone in mind, and that means people going into the program may have absolutely no experience. In my case, they asked for a portfolio of work as part of the admission process. So, if you are self-taught and eager to solidify your already existing knowledge, or a total beginner, this is a good choice for you. If, however, you have already completed a similar program, you may wish to take a new program merely to upgrade your skills (because the field of new media is always changing). If you can, it really, really, really helps if you take a freehand drawing course prior to learning how to draw using a computer. 2. Recognition - Does the school participate in any graphical arts competitions? - Have students accomplished anything of reknown in the industry? 3. Teachers Trust me, this doesn't go without saying. The quality of your education will be directly related to the instructors. I have never encountered an instructor that wasn't immensely knowledgeable about the subject area. Of course, there is a big difference between knowing the subject area and being able to teach (that is, to convey that information, and manage students, answer questions, etc). 4. Job Placement 100% make sure that you get into a program that incorporates on-the-job experience. Or at least a practicum. This usually is 100 hours of real on-the-job experience and it is absolutely invaluable to your career. 5. Curriculum And Tools You must assess whether the curriculum is relevant to you field of study. You may want to compare the curricula of different schools to see which offers the best form of education. As it so happens in my case, the administration did something they have never done before: changed the curriculum halfway through the program. The reasoning behind this was that the software we were scheduled to be instructed in would soon be discontinued on the Mac. It really pays off if you can see the facilities beforehand so you know what tools they are using. Don't just oogle at the computers, snoop around and see the programs directory and make note of what programs are installed, and if they are the latest versions. 6. Student to Teacher Ratio Graphic design is kind of an industry that more or less demands personal contributions on every project. For this reason, you can't just be known as the photoshop guy, it is your responsibility to be well versed in a lot of different programs and techniques for creating stunning graphics and illustrations. And that means you will definately need one-on-one instruction, or at least the ability to stop the class in case you get lost. These programs are very fast-paced and if you don't make sure you fully understand concepts in the first semester you will get hopelessly lost - fast. 7. Accreditation Accreditation means the school has passed a certain standards of educational quality. If you can, ask for literally one minute of the head departments time and find out a listing of companies that students have been hired into. 8. Cost A full education in graphic design can cost anywhere from 13,000 to 16,000 dollars for an intensive one-year program (120 credits). The goal here is to find a university, college, or technical institute that is recognized internationally for excellence. Let's face it, Harvard University will look a lot better on your resume than Texas Community College. Three great recognized schools in are BCIT located in Vancouver Canada (Vancouver is the equivalent of Hollywood for graphic designers, web designers, and all new media experts), the Art Institute (with locations worldwide), and the Vancouver Film School (VFS) that has graphic design programs that are very specialized. 9. Scholarships You might want to consider whether the design school you are looking at offers any scholarships. You also might want to know the terms to them too. Some schools offer scholarships based on academic performance. Some offer them based on art competitions they hold regularly. You should qualify for a national student loan either way, and repayment is extremely affordable. By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mary_Jones]Mary Jones Is the demand for collateral hindering your capability to take up loans? If you are a tenant or even if you own a house but wish not to put it at risk, the best option that would suit your requirements is unsecured loans, which would provide you loan without any security or collateral. Unsecured loans are basically personal loans which are offered especially to individuals who cannot provide collateral. It offers you with an opportunity to fulfill your financial commitments without risking your property and supports you financially when you are falling short of money. There are various conditions where you will be aided by unsecured loans. It meets some of your urgent personal requirements such as home improvement, wedding, paying off old debts, educational fees, organizing vacations, buying a car and so on. Since there is no security with the lender, unsecured loans are greatly offered on your creditworthiness. However, it does not overlook individuals who are having bad credit, CCjs or facing financial setbacks. Unsecured loans are offered with low interest and easy repayment terms which will comply with your financial situations. Usually unsecured loans are offered in a wide variety of amount ranging from 500 to 2500. The repayment period varies from 6 months to 10 years, depending on the loan amount. Apart from that, your interest rate depends upon the loan amount, repayment period, your monthly income etc. So it is advisable to first analyse your financial circumstances and then decide which option will suit you the best. There are many advantages of unsecured loans. The application given for any unsecured loan, is approved faster than those for other secured loans. This is just because of the simple reason that it does not require any property verification since no collateral is offered. The fees associated with property verification is also absent, thus offering instant service with less paperwork. Apart from that it also has a broader spectrum as it caters to all types of borrowers who do no have collateral. Getting unsecured loan nowadays is not a big problem. Many lenders do their business through their websites. They have online application forms. You can fill in the form and get online quotes. This method will provide you an opportunity to compare the interest rates of different lending agencies and choose the best among them. When you are successful in finding out the best lender, you can make a deal with him. Now you can satisfy your requirements without any risk and financial pressure. Plants To Grow Old With or The Constant Battle
by cherie aleong - Monday, 24 December 2007, 05:55 PM
Anyone in the world

By S. Johnson Following are a few paragraphs about the on going battle I had with some of my plants! Way back when I was just starting to garden I excitedly gathered starts from here and there, and several times, when I asked people for a particular start, they, with raised eyebrow, would ask me if I was sure I wanted that plant as it could be invasive. Naively, and just so thrilled to get a new start (I had garden fever bad Ha!), I said that wasn't a problem. Wow! Was I ever clueless! I had a lot to learn as to just how INVASIVE some plants could be and how hard some were to kill out. Following are a few short tales of the battles I waged with those wonderful starts I collected years ago. Horseradish will be the first I'll mention, as it was one of the first starts I acquired. I found it to be a very worthy opponent. In some book about companion planting I read that horseradish was good to raise by potatoes, so I rushed out and found a start of it! Well, Ive long since quit raising potatoes, but I still have a thriving supply of horseradish. Slow spreading, but, as far as I'm concerned, impossible to get rid of. When you dig it up any tiny pieces of root that remain will start new plants. I tried covering it with black plastic for two years and it just sent out shoots to come up in other places. I guess we will grow old together. Wild Blackberry is the next opponent. I love blackberries, so I asked a friend who lives in the country for a start of hers. With raised eyebrow she asked me "Are you sure you want this? I assured her, "Oh yes, I'm going to train it to a trellis. she just said ok with more raised eyebrows. (Are you laughing yet?) Train wild blackberry to a trellis, no such thing for me. For two years I had delicious berries but the thorns (from Hades) ripped me to shreds, and the underground runners were sending up new shoots in my tomato patch, my carrot patch, and in my neighbors yard, to their delight and mine. NOT! The more I cut them down the more they ran. It finally took cutting them to the ground (with ripped up body parts to accomplish this) and covering them with black plastic for four years to finally kill them out. This is one battle I won!! Mint, of which I have three varieties, is sure to be another plant that I'll grow old with. I got the Apple mint and Lemon mint from the same friend that gave me the start of blackberry, with an even stronger reaction. She warned me how aggressive and invasive mint could be. I purchased the Peppermint from a retailer. I was sure I could contain the mint with some mulch and some of those four-inch barriers. I planted it by the walkways in my flower and herb gardens, as I thought the fragrance that would be released, as people brushed against it would be nice. That part of my plan did work. These plants do smell good when crushed, but believe me no four-inch barrier and mulch is going to hold mint in check! The Apple mint and the Peppermint spread by runners that just hopped over or dove under the barriers and through the mulch and ran wherever they choose. Each year I spend considerable time pulling it up out of the flower and herbs beds. Last year I turned my back on it for a while to long (as I was distracted with this computer) and ended up taking a weed eater to it, because it had completely taken over one flower bed. Then I had to get down and pull up the underground roots and runners. How it got into that bed is a mystery. That bed was at the opposite end of the garden. A word of warning! Any little piece of stem or root can and probably will start a new plant. The only way I would recommend raising mint is in escape proof containers. The Lemon mint self-seeds itself prolifically. I have it popping up in all the beds each spring. Wild Passion Flower Vine, with its sweet fragrance and exotic blooms, is also one of those plants that spread by underground runners. When I got the start to this beauty I planted it by my front porch and set a trellis so it could climb it. I thought this would be a nice place for visitors to view the lovely bloom and enjoy the sweet smell of its blossoms. The problem here was that the vine wasn't content with staying by the trellis. It comes up in the shrubs, hedges, hostas, and hibiscus. It has spread to the neighbors yard again to their delight and mine NOT! It has spread all the way around to the other side of the house. God only knows where it will show up next. Honey Locust Tree, I can't forget this one. This tree has lovely clusters of pinkish-lavender blooms, but it also has a devilish habit of sending underground runners that pop up just where you usually don't want them. I've dug starts out of my horseradish, iris, comphrey, thyme, etc. Oh well, it does have lovely blooms... S. Johnson is the owner of Azeche Co. and creator of ShopAzeche.com and LetMeOutDoors.com. The Best Food
by cherie aleong - Sunday, 23 December 2007, 11:48 AM
Anyone in the world

By Dr. Randy Wysong Everyone eats so everyone has an opinion about food. But if health is the objective, mere opinion doesnt count nor does fad or majority rule. Most people think the average cooked diet based upon official food pyramids is just fine. Some eat predominantly fast food. Others advocate veganism (eating only plant foods), or lacto-ova vegetarianism (plants plus milk and eggs). There are also proponents of special foods such as fresh juices, soybean products and macrobiotic cooked grains and rice. Everyone can make arguments on behalf of their beliefs. They can cite examples of people who have escaped disease and lived long. Some argue morality and ethics, such as those who say sentient animal life should not be sacrificed for food. Others set their eating practices by the standards of holy writ that eschew certain forms of foods and sanctify others. Others just eat what tastes good and thats logic enough for them. Eating beliefs seem to take on an almost religious character. People feel guarded and pretty zealous about food and dont like others meddling. But since health is intimately linked to what we take into our mouths, thinking, honest reflection and willingness to change are in order. It is easy to be deceived because wrong food choices may not manifest their full impact until late in life. Nutrition can even pass through genetically to affect later generations. In this regard, food ideas are also like religion in that hundreds of different sects can each claim to have the truth. But none of them needs to fear disproof since adjudication will not occur until everyone is dead and gone to the afterlife. The body is extremely adaptable and will attempt to survive on whatever it is given. If the food is incorrect there is usually no immediate harm. But the body will eventually be stressed beyond its ability to adapt, resulting in disease, degeneration and loss of vitality. Unfortunately, such consequences are so far removed in time from the eating regimen that caused them that few understand the relationship. So be careful before subscribing to bold claims about what is or is not good to eat. The true test of any health idea lies too far out into the future. Our best hope then is to be well grounded philosophically before we slide our legs under the dinner table. How do we develop a healthy eating philosophy and sort through all of the competing eating ideas? I am going to explain here a very simple principle that is so reasonable you need not even look for proofs. Follow along with me and see if you don't agree. Consider the following three premises: 1. Just like a tree is genetically adapted to absorb certain nutrients from soil, and a lion is genetically adapted to thrive on prey, and a deer is genetically adapted to browse on vegetation, so too, are humans genetically adapted to certain kinds of food. 2. The majority of foods we are presently exposed to are a product of the Agricultural/Industrial Revolution and occupy a small part of the genetic history of humans. (Refer back to the 276-mile time-line in which only a few inches represent industrial-type eating practices.) 3. The natural, genetically adapted to food for humans must predate them. In other words, how could humans exist before the food they needed to survive existed? We were completely developed biologically prior to agriculture and any method of food processing. That means whatever diet archetypal humans ate was the perfect diet because that was the diet responsible for the existence and development of the incredibly complex human organism. That diet was the milieu, the environmental nutritional womb, if you will, from which we sprung. If you consider these three premises, the logical conclusion derived from them is that the best food for humans is that food which they would be able to eat as is, as it is found in nature. Our tissues were designed to be bathed in food nutrients derived from natural living foods, not with dyes, preservatives, synthetics, nutritiously barren starches and refined sugars and oils. Make no mistake; if we are not eating according to this principle, our bodies are in constant deficiency, imbalance and toxin exposure. The result of generations ignoring this principle is an epidemic of obesity, chronic degenerative diseases and the exhaustion of our digestive processes. A feature of all natural food is that it is raw alive if you will. This is consistent with the Law of Biogenesis that says life can only come from preexisting life. Life begets life. In spite of scientists dreams to the contrary, we have never observed life springing from non-life, nor have we ever even been able to create life from non-life in a laboratory. If we eat living foods, we enhance our own life. If we eat dead, devitalized foods we become devitalized and dead. Granted, this will not happen all at once, but as the adaptive reserves are exhausted we become just like the dead food we eat. So a fundamental feature of our natural diet was that it was raw. Yes, even the meats, organs, eggs and insects raw. Remember, were far back in time, even before the use of fire (much less the microwave, stove, oven, grill, deep fryer or extruder). Studies of the diets of past cultures and todays still-primitive societies reveals that they ate exactly as their genes and the environment dictated. We were not suddenly dropped from outer space onto Earth with fry pans, matches and rotisseries. We began on the forest floor, not in a line to a fast food counter. We had only our natural bodies in a natural world, exactly like every other creature. Every other organism on Earth eats raw foods exactly like they are found in nature. Do you think nature doesnt notice our decision to change all that? Would tofu qualify? No, because tofu is found nowhere in nature. Would oatmeal porridge qualify? No, because oatmeal porridge is found nowhere in nature. Would hamburgers, French fries, pop, breakfast cereals, granola, canned foods, candy, sports drinks, muscle building powders, vitamins and minerals, mashed potatoes, carrot cake, croissants, bagels, Jolly Ranchers, Ding Dongs, Cocoa Krispies, Good n Plentys or Fig Newtons qualify? No. None of these are found as such in nature. For those of you who are by now panicking (if not gagging) at the thought of eating raw foods, yes, there is danger of food-borne pathogens. But if you are careful and clean, the danger is far less than the danger of a lifetime eating devitalized processed foods. Raw natural foods must be safe or our ancestors would have not survived and we would not exist! It is a choice. When faced with a choice, why not opt for the wisdom of nature? Is it not strange we are the only creatures on the planet to cook our foods? Is it a wonder, given this, that we succumb with every imaginable chronic degenerative disease virtually unknown in creatures eating the raw natural diet? Simply think of yourself placed in nature in the total absence of modern technology. Ask yourself the question, what would I eat... and what could I eat? You could eat and digest fruits, nuts, insects, a few plants, honey, worms, grubs, eggs, milk and animal flesh. These are about the only food substances in nature humans are capable of digesting without technological (including fire) intervention. These are, in fact, the very foods that are the mainstay of nomadic primitive societies. Only when these foods become scarce do unpalatable, inedible foods such as most grains and vegetables become cooked and processed to change their palatability, neutralize toxins and increase digestibility. So that is where we have been. But does this have anything to do with us here today in the 21st century microwave age? It has everything to do with us because it is this expansive historical context that served as the womb that shaped and defined us. It is this natural wild setting that occupies the vast majority of our history and predominates our genetics. It is the incubator within which life on planet Earth has developed. What would have been the predominant food in the wild? Likely prey. Envision yourself placed back in time in that setting with a family to feed. You would be looking for the most calorie- and nutrient-dense foods you could find. That would not be a few wheat seeds, some grass or a root. You would let the herbivores do all the grazing and digestion with their specialized stomachs that are capable of converting essentially any plant material into edible protein and fat. Then you would eat them. I dont like that either, but that is the way it is. Pretty simple isnt it? We should eat what nature provides that we can digest. Yet this is not explained in nutrition textbooks, and PhD nutritionists graduate without even grasping it. It cuts through all the theory, belief, and guesswork. It matches our natural bodies with our natural food. Our immersion in modern cookery and food processing has misled us. Foods such as granola, tofu, cauliflower and lettuce, which are marketed as the ultimate health foods, are in fact not natural human foods at all. These products either do not exist in nature, are so scarce as to never possibly be a sustaining food, or in their raw precooked form are unpalatable and even toxic. For example, raw soybeans contain a variety of chemicals that can stunt growth and interfere with the body's digestive enzymes. Eat enough of them and you'll die. Modern grain products are a result of agriculture and in their raw form are unpalatable, indigestible and also toxic. In nature one would never find enough kernels of rice, wheat or barley to even make up a meal, even if they were edible in their raw form. (Sprouted seeds and grains are an exception to this since they are digestible, raw and nutritious.) Who, if they were really, really hungry and options were available would eat raw broccoli, cauliflower or lettuce? These foods are only now made palatable by cooking or doctoring with manufactured dressings. Now this creates somewhat of a dilemma. Knowing what our natural diet is and consuming it are two different things. We are so acclimated to the modern diet that the notion of eating raw meat, for example, is nauseating to most. Nevertheless, as evidenced by primitive (but nutritionally advanced) peoples, raw meat and organs can be eaten with great nutritional benefit to humans, and they are totally digestible and nontoxic. Some cultures even bury raw meats and let them rot (ferment) and then consume them with gusto. These societies are robustly healthy until modern foods encroach. Then, like a dirty bathtub ring, modern degenerative diseases decimate those people at the periphery in contact with modern foods. It would be very difficult today to achieve the ideal raw, natural diet. But if the basic principle is kept in mind it helps remind us of our origins and points us to the appropriate, genetically adapted-to foods. This does not mean no processed or cooked foods should be eaten. It simply means that consistently doing so will stress the body's genetic capabilities and will ultimately result in less than optimal health. Look around the grocery store (usually the outside aisles) and consider what it is that could be eaten in its natural state. Increase the proportion of those foods. Processed foods should be chosen that compromise natural principles the least and are as close to nature as possible. They should be whole foods, packaged carefully to protect nutrient value and be free of synthetics, refined oils and sugars. For example, whole milk yogurt that has not been homogenized or pasteurized is ideal. The same thing pasteurized would be next best. The same thing pasteurized and homogenized next. Worst would be non-fat, pasteurized, homogenized, artificially flavored and sugared yogurt (which is, of course, what the majority eat because it tastes most like what they are used to candy). Eat the best foods you can find in variety and moderation and you will be doing the best that can be done. There, you have in a nutshell what has taken me decades of research, study and thinking to discover. It is simple and obvious, but that is the way of all great truths. Marketing Without Ego
by cherie aleong - Saturday, 22 December 2007, 08:01 PM
Anyone in the world

By Alicia Smith Our ego can get in the way of marketing our business. From our need to be right, to talking about ourselves incessantly; coming from an attitude of arrogance to getting attached to the outcomes of what we do, these are just some of the ways our ego can get in our way. If its all about us, then it isnt about our customers. Its imperative that we are aware of how we conduct our selves and the impact it may be having on our success. Our ego, however, can serve us as well. Our ego can help us in setting boundaries and standards of performance. It can give us the confidence to know we can make a positive difference for our clients. If we cant believe in what we do, no one else will. Ego, in a healthy way, is about playing to our strengths and not to our weaknesses. How can we step away from our ego and market our business more effectively? 1. Maintain an open mind. When we come from a place of ego, we tend to be narrowly scoped. Usually we have difficulty seeing beyond what we can understand. We think we know the only way, that we have all of the answers. Business success, however, demands that we see the bigger picture. We must be open to new ideas, trends, opinions, and most importantly, to the variety of potential customers or clients with whom well undoubtedly interface. An open perspective may lead us to developing new and innovative products or programs. It may allow us to seek out others who we might otherwise dismiss, possibly creating the opportunity for strategic business alliances or partnerships. An open mind opens us up to opportunities. 2. Listen more than you speak. Its been said that we were given two ears and one mouth so that we could listen twice as much as we speak. While there is definitely merit to this statement, it really goes one step deeper. Almost every single time we speak, we are speaking from a place of ego. We are talking about ourselves, something we saw, something we did, something we have an opinion about. While that is all good and fine, when it comes to business we need to make some adjustments. Business is about serving the needs of others, specifically your target market. Its all about them. To be successful, you need to listen to what they say. What are their biggest problems, needs, and desires? What are they looking for you to do for them? How can your products or services solve their problems? The only way to determine that is by listening closely and carefully. When you speak, come from a place of inquiry and curiosity. And, make sure that everything you speak about relates back to the client in some way. 3. Serve others instead of ourselves. Most of us are in business to make money. That end is worthy and necessary to meet our goal of making a living. But, in order to create a successful business our orientation must be from the standpoint of serving others. It is by serving others that we serve ourselves. Of all of the business blunders, this is probably the one that leads the way to slow growth or to eventual business failure. Each day, we need to evaluate our activities. Certainly we must handle various administrative and operational tasks for our business. But, aside from these, all other activities need to be focused around serving our clients. Ask yourself the question: Is what Im doing serving or going to serve the needs and requirements of my clientele? If the answer is no, re-evaluate why you are doing it. You may be wasting time, money, and energy pursuing activities that will have no value. Orient everything you do around serving others and youll naturally end up serving yourself as well. 4. Practice humility. Humility or the state of being humble is an absolute must in business. For no matter what we do in life, there will always be times when we cannot control what is happening around us or to us. By developing an attitude of gratitude and being thankful in the moment for things going well, well be able to weather the storm much better when things go awry. Practicing humility means that we must face our own failures and imperfections. It also means that we must know our place when it comes to dealing with others that we must treat others as we would like to be treated. It demands that we set aside our ego and realize that we are no better and no worse than anyone else; that we are on our own path that is unique to us and for us. There is no place for ego in a humble heart. 5. Dont get attached to outcomes. Being attached to outcomes is a surefire path to disappointment and a waste of our mental energies. It is our ego that fuels our intense desire to create specific outcomes. And, just like clockwork, this type of attitude leads to disappointment when the desired outcome fails to manifest. No one can control the outcome of a situation. All we can do is make decisions, based on the best data possible. There are a myriad of intervening circumstances that can derail even the best of plans. For this reason, its important to set aside our egos and understand we only have so much power to steer our course. We need to develop a sense of peace that we have made the best decisions based upon what we know and leave it at that. 6. Avoid perfection. A big ego usually accompanies an attitude that everything has to be perfect. Perfect is an impossible idealism that keeps people from moving forward and accomplishing all that they can. Perfection will prevent you from giving a speech because you dont think its good enough. Perfection will stop you from writing a book, making a phone call to a prospect, or presenting a teleclass on a topic you love. Dont let this unproductive attitude invade your life. Its rooted in ego a need to be right, a need to be better than others and beyond reproach. Ironically, most people are not drawn to perfectionists, as they are often perceived as uptight, unrealistic, and better than everyone else. Your clients will be drawn to you because of who you are -- failures, mistakes, and imperfections the whole nine yards. People will seek you out because you are a real person someone they can identify with. Dont let perfection stand in the way of being who you are. 7. Make mistakes. Mistakes are a part of life. And really, there are no mistakes; there are only experiences. Experiences provide us with feedback that allows us to make other decisions that lead us towards what we want to accomplish. If we arent willing to have experiences, we arent going to have a life or a business for that matter. A big ego will often prevent us from having experiences because it perceives that a mistake is a bad thing and a sign of failure. The funny thing about this is that youre probably the only one who notices the mistake, as other folks are much too busy being concerned with their own lives. Get out of yourself, shed your ego and start living. The most successful business owners are the ones who step out, have experiences and fail their way to success. 8. Be right, not righteous. Theres a big difference between being right and being righteous. Being righteous is all about your ego. You think that you have a monopoly on right; that you know and have all the answers, and that everyone who does not believe as you do is wrong. Righteous folks are frightened folks. Often they are raised on fear-based ideas put forth by otherwise well-meaning parents or institutions. They are wrapped up in their own world, unaware of other people. They dont know how to respect others because they themselves harbor nothing worthy of respect. After all its ludicrous to believe anyone has a monopoly on truth or what is right. Still, however, you may see this creeping into your own approach to business. Whenever you feel the need to express righteousness, know that its your ego rearing its ugly head. 9. Consult others. Seeking out counsel, information, wisdom, or feedback from others is a wonderful way to bring creativity, inspiration, and motivation to all that you do. If your ego were in play, you wouldnt even consider such a thing. Ego is all about you. You dont have a place for others, their ideas, or their feedback. Business is all about interfacing with others, from your colleagues, to your vendors and supplies, to your all important customers or clients. Just like with the idea of having an open mind, tremendous opportunity can come your way by consulting with others. Dont close down the doors to success. Instead, open them wide by setting aside your ego and connecting with others. 10. Let others tell your story. Why not completely take you and your ego out of the picture and let others speak for you. Testimonials and referrals are, by the far, the most powerful tools you can use to build your business. People relate to the stories that others tell them. They hold much more credibility than if you were to talk about yourself and your client successes. Actively gather testimonials from the folks you do business with. Make sure to include a few of them in your various marketing materials. Post them to your website for everyone to view and read. If someone says wonderful things about you but is uncomfortable writing a testimonial, offer to transcribe what they tell you and then send it to them for final approval. If you are interested in creating your own sedu hair style then you will want to follow the sedu hair style tips listed below. The first thing that you will need to do to create a superior sedu hair style is to use the right equipment. Sedu offers one of the best ceramic hair straighteners on the market today. It utilizes a ceramic and tourmaline plate system that allows the plates to slide easily over your hair without grabbing, snagging or damaging the strands. The sedu hair straightener also is superior to other ceramic hair straighteners because it creates 6 times the number of negative ions and it also is designed to infuse your hair strands with moisture and shine. If you have had bad luck with flat irons and ceramic straighteners in the past you will be pleasantly surprised by the results generated by the sedu hair straightener. In addition to using the sedu hair straightener sedu beauty tips also recommend that you use the right hair care products in conjunction with your hair straightener. One of the most important hair care products that you should use when creating a sedu hair style is conditioner. Make sure that you use a high quality condition when you wash your hair, and also use a leave in conditioner when you plan on creating a sedu hair style. This will help to protect your hair from styling damage, and it will also help your sedu hair straightener create a sleek and shiny hair style. Sedu hair styles are great for just about any occasion. However, they are especially popular for proms and special occasions. To select the best sedu prom hair styles for you, you will need to first consider the shape of your face. For example round faces and heart shaped faces need to look for sedu hair styles that add height to the crown of their head. After you have determined what shape your face is you next step is to find a hair style that is both flattering to your face shape and that will also fit your style preference. Astragalus Root: From China to the Western World

Anyone in the world

By Becky Gormley Astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceous) is derived from a perennial plant that grows in northern China and Mongolia. In China, this herb is considered one of the best for the immune system. According to the Chinese, Astragalus is said to have another effect on the "surface" of the body---that is, it is used to tonify the "Protective Qi," known as Wei Qi in Chinese. This Protective Qi is a special kind of energy, which circulates just under the skin and in the muscle. Protective Qi is a Yang energy. Protective Qi circulates in the subcutaneous tissues providing suppleness to the flesh and adaptive energy to the skin. This function is essential to life. An important effect of Astragalus is in its ability to fortify the "Upright Qi." Upright Qi is the energy allocated by the body to maintain upright posture and to maintain the position of the organs in their healthy position in their battle with gravity. As one gets older, or if one experiences chronic fatigue or exhaustion, or during illness, this Upright Qi is easily depleted resulting in the sinking, or "prolapse," of organs. The western world has only recently become aware of the uses of Astragalus root. Studies conducted in America support the assertion that astragalus root can enhance the immune system. The herb appears to be effective in strengthening immune response in people who undergo radiation treatment or chemotherapy for cancer. People who used astragalus root during cancer treatment had fewer side effects and faster recovery time. Astragalus root appears to induce production of interferon, a chemical that is an essential part of the immune system and has been widely studied for its ability to fight the development of cancer. As an immune system enhancer, astragalus root may also be a promising treatment for HIV and for autoimmune diseases such as lupus It is used to increase energy, build resistance to illness, increase production of white blood cells, fight bacteria, stimulate appetite, fight fatigue, and combat colds and lung problems. It may increase resistance to viral infections, aid in would healing, and reduce water retention in kidney complications, help to control blood sugar, and may reduce side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. Astragalus enhances the function of the skin to eliminate toxins. It is commonly used to help sores in the skin to come to a head and suppurate, and thus to heal more quickly and effectively. Astragalus has a mild diuretic action and helps to relieve excessive sweating. It is helpful in treating loose stools, chronic diarrhea and chronic or recurring colds. If a cold lasts too long it can cause a general fatigue syndrome that can itself become chronic. Astragalus helps people who just cant seem to shake a cold, by strengthening the immune system. Roots of astragalus plants that are at least four years old are dried and used for medicinal purposes. As an herbal remedy, astragalus root is said to ward off infections and possibly even cancer. It works in part by helping the skin to eliminate toxins. Astragalus root contains several compounds that are thought to help strengthen the immune system. These include polysaccharides, saponins, astragalosides, flavonoids and triterpenes. The active ingredients in astragalus root make it useful topically to help sores on the skin to heal. It can also be used to treat chronic symptoms of colds and flu, as well as diarrhea. Astragalus root is a mild diuretic, and it can help to reduce sweating as well. In traditional Chinese medicine, all of these uses are attributed to the ability of astragalus root to replenish "qi" so a person who is afflicted with an ailment can regain strength and immunity. Astragalus root is also said to protect the adrenal cortex, the gland that produces hormones related to stress. It may also help allergy sufferers by strengthen the immune system's response to allergens in the environment. In addition, the saponins in astragalus root may have an effect on cardiovascular disease. Saponins have an anticoagulant effect that can prevent the development of blood clots that may lead to heart attacks and stroke. An interesting new area of research on Astragalus concerns its potential as a male fertility agent. Astragalus has been proved to stimulate sperm motility. Astragalus root can be used safely with few side effects. It is available in powdered extracts, tinctures and teas. The roots are usually sliced diagonally, making them look like a tongue depressor. Generally, the older root is of better quality. One popular way to take this herb is as a decoction: 1 heaping teaspoon of shredded root, or 2-3 sticks, per cup of water, simmer covered for 15-20 minutes, strain before drinking as tea; it is also available as a tincture and in capsules/tablets (following instructions on manufacturer's label). Whole pieces may be added to soups and stews. Remove them before serving. The tea can be used to mix with concentrated frozen juices instead of using plain water to reconstitute them. Cautionary Notes: Since astragalus root can increase the effects of certain antiviral medicines, people who are taking such medications should consult a physician before using the herb. Also, astragalus may interfere with immune system suppressants that are prescribed to people who receive organ transplants, so it should not be used by these patients. Because of its anticoagulant activity, astragalus root may increase the risk of bleeding for people taking blood thinners such as Coumadin. Do not take before or after surgery as it could increase bleeding. Always consult your physician or health provider before starting any herbal treatment. Astragalus is not recommended when there is acute diarrhea; it is not a problem if there is chronic mild diarrhea. Taking large concentrated amounts for a prolonged period, in the form of extracts or capsules, may cause abdominal and chest tension in some people. 10 Pounds To Lose Weight Loss Advice
by cherie aleong - Wednesday, 19 December 2007, 11:00 AM
Anyone in the world

By Rob Cooper You may have 10 pounds to lose and youre just starting your fat loss program, or it may be the last 10 pounds to lose from months or years of constant work. The last 10 pounds are the easiest ones to lose and let me tell you how. 1. The Power of the Mind One critical thing when trying for the last 10 pounds to lose is the power of the mind. First of all, dont try to lose the last 10 pounds, but rather do it. Know that it is going to happen and expect it to happen. Simple enough to say, but it is true. When we get to the last 10 pounds to lose, we begin to coast and ease up on our training and commitment, but Im telling you to do exactly the opposite. This is the time to push forward and pick up speed, and be every more diligent in your choices. You must know in your mind that the last 10 pounds to lose is the easiest part of the journey. Use the power of your mind to visualize success and yourself not only standing at the finish line having successfully achieved your goal, but even more so than that.. Visualize yourself picking up speed and running through the finish line. Your motto should be there is nothing more powerful than a warrior running through the finish line. Be a fat burning warrior. 2. Increase your metabolism The last 10 pounds to lose is as easy as increasing your metabolism through exercise and a change in eating habits. Diet If youre not already eating 5 or 6 meals a day, then now is the time to change your eating strategy and the last 10 pounds to lose will literally fall off your body. Become a fat burning machine through diet by rethinking how you look at food, snacks and meals. Every time you eat, your body kicks into gear and works hard at digesting or burning up that meal to turn it into nutrients that your body can use for energy and healing while the rest is burnt off as heat (in a process called thermogenics). Exercise If you have been on some sort of last 10 pounds to lose program, its likely included exercise. You are probably doing cardio like crazy. Well, you should be. If you have not been doing cardio, now is the time to start. If you have been, then nows the time to kick it up a notch. The last 10 pounds to lose is as easy as increasing your output. Doubling your cardio to 6 times per week, or if youve already been doing that, then do a second cardio session in the evening for a twice a day cardio workout. Wow, that will really kick things into gear. One caveat: if you increase your output of exercise, you may also need to increase your calorie consumption a bit to match your bodies new need for food. 3. clean up your diet If everything is going well, you can take some time to finally clean up your diet. This means that the last 10 pounds to lose may require re-thinking your diet. Are you eating any condiments? Are you eating dairy products? Have you been eating low fat foods thinking theyre healthy and designed to help you lose the last 10 pounds? Here are some simple rules to help you clean up your diet: How many names are listed on the ingredients? The lower the number of items listed, the better it is for you. Can you remove condiments from your diet for a short period of time? Eliminate ketchup (which I call tomato flavoured sugar), eliminate mayonnaise, get rid of salad dressings. Eliminate soy sauce from your rice. What are you drinking? At this point, your goal of 10 pounds to lose would include a very substantial change in fluids. An increase in water consumption and a removal of all other fluids such as juices or other non-nutritional beverages will assist with the last 10 pounds to lose. 4. Wake up earlier means more time to burn calories The longer you are awake, the longer your body is burning calories and the more time you have to ingest and burn the 5 or 6 meals required. Eating every 3 hours for 5 meals requires starting at 6 am and eating last meal at 6 PM for example. For men, eating another meal at 9 pm. The longer you are awake allows more time for exercise. Doing cardio first thing in the morning before your first meal helps burn fat rather than any blood sugars. Make sure you exercise before you eat. Then staying up later allows for an evening weight training workout, or a second cardio session. The last 10 pounds to lose might be as simple as spending more time awake. If you are really trying to lose the last 10 pounds, remember that it should always be considered easy. If you tell yourself its easy and your mind knows that you think its easy that it becomes easy. You are what you think. What you focus on expands. Your mind cannot tell the difference between what you think is real and what is real, so know in your heart and mind that the last 10 pounds to lose is easy. Clean up your diet, improve what you drink for fluids, spend more time awake and make sure you stay active. Trust me, the last 10 pounds is an easy thing to accomplish.
