Using a Contact List Profitably- Part Two
by cherie aleong - Friday, 7 March 2008, 11:34 PM
Anyone in the world

By Nancy Roebke Besides a survey, your contact list can be used to generate sales directly. Some of the following ideas must be done one-on-one and others can be done to large quantities of prospects at a time. They all have varying levels of effectiveness. A general rule of thumb is: The more personal the contact, the greater the chances of a sale. That means that an in-person interview has a better success rate than a mass mailing. 1. The in-person interview. As the name suggests, this is something that is done in-person where you have the advantages of eye contact, voice inflection and body language. Although, very time consuming, it is extremely effective in generating sales. Much has been written about the "presentation", but the main facet should always be finding out what's in it for the client to do business with you. What do they need and what have you got that satisfies that need. This is the basis for ALL sales and I don't see that changing any time in the near future. 2. Direct mail. Much has ALSO been written about direct mail. You can expect a 1-3% return from direct mail. A lot depends on how targeted the mailing list is, how effective the envelope is in getting prospects to open it, how effective the letter is describing the product or service and how competitive the offer is to what the receiver is currently using. 3. Call-to-Action pieces. These CAN be distributed by mass mail but are often delivered by hand to individual homes/businesses. These include door hangers, coupons, and flyers. These pieces have an offer that has a limited time to respond, has specific requirements for qualification to take advantage of the offer and/or is otherwise limited in its scope. An effective way to do this is to team up with another business and share client lists. Find a business that offers a complimentary product to yours (you sell houses- they give mortgages; you sell tee shirts, they have a health club) and do a joint offer to both lists involving both businesses. 4. Use your contact list to generate referrals. Each one of the people on your contact lists knows 250 people (according to Reader's Digest). Your contact list is a GOLD MINE of referrals. I currently offer a $50.00 credit to anyone sending me a referral that turns into a client. That amount is offered on a $200.00 sale, so it's a 25% finders fee. It is not always necessary to financially reimburse persons who send you a referral, though. It is ALWAYS necessary to send a THANK YOU. That THANK YOU can be in the form of a finders fee, a discount coupon, or just a simple THANK YOU note. This goes a long way in developing good, strong relationships. Appreciation never goes out of style. Nancy Roebke, is the Executive Director of Profnet Inc, a professional business leads generation corporation. Three Tips for a Better and Cheaper Lawn
by cherie aleong - Thursday, 6 March 2008, 04:52 PM
Anyone in the world

By Doug Green Here are several things you can do for your lawn right now that will make it a better lawn all summer. The first is to move the mowing deck to its highest setting. Mow the lawn tall. The longer you allow the grass leaves to grow, the more energy they can produce for their roots. The more energy in the roots, the healthier the grass plant will be and the thicker it will grow. Thick grass plants shade the soil more than thin, spindly grass plants and this shade stops weed seeds from germinating. So to slow down weed infestations, mow the grass as tall as you can. Another thing you can do is sharpen the mower blades. Not only does a sharp blade cut better, it also uses ten percent less energy to do its job. Ten percent of the cost of the gasoline you use to mow your lawn will easily pay for a sharpening job on the mower deck. Your grass will also be healthier as the grass blades will be cut instead of whacked and ripped. Clean cuts are said to heal faster and allow fewer fungal infestations on the leaf wounds. And finally, sharp blades make it easier for the lawn mower engine to turn the blades. Sharp blades lengthen the life of the engine and if youve ever had to rebuild a motor or buy a new one, you can appreciate how much youll save by using sharp blades. And last but not least, buy yourself a good hat that shades both your forehead and the back of your neck. If youre like me, theres a noticeable reduction in the amount of hair protecting my head from sunburn and a good hat to block harmful UV rays is now necessary for garden work. Tired of Weight Loss Scams?
by cherie aleong - Wednesday, 5 March 2008, 02:27 PM
Anyone in the world

By Sarah Barton Every day we are bomabarded by images of beautiful celebrities who seem to achieved impossibly perfect figures. How do they do it? With expensive personal trainers, gormet food home delivery and deluxe spa treatments. Well what about those of us who don't have the time and money to spend on indulging in the lastest $1000 per month spa foods delivery or spend two hours a day at budokon class? In other words, wouldn't it be nice to lose a ton of weight with minimal effort? No tough exercise program, just you relaxing at home watching the pounds fall off. I, for one, have been searching for a program like that FOREVER! I've spent hundreds, (at this point probably thousands of dollars), testing out all those new fad diets and weight loss pills only to be disapointed again and again. Whether its the South Beath, Atkins, Zone, Hoodia suppliments, cortisol, green tea supplements, grapefruit supplements, we've seen all the fantastic claims that people have made about losing tons of weight, and they show you how you can do the same thing. I can tell you right now that 99% of these people are total frauds. You may have even fallen prey to one of these scam artists, selling you their lastest "lose weight fast" programs. Me too. I've bought so many of these programs that I can't even recall how many. I don't know why, but I tend to find the "good" in people, and I was "sold" by these marketing schemes time and time again, even after being scammed by another. Finally, after so many disappointments, I got FED UP! I was tired of yo yo dieting. I wanted to lose weight and keep it off. So I did some serious investigation as to what programs were frauds and which ones weren't. Essentially, we all know that in order to lose weight you need to expend more calories than you intake. Well, sounds easy enough, but whether its becuase of emotional overeating or lack of physical activity, most of us can't manage. So then I started looking into a couple of programs that made sense biologically. I looked for programs that had a staff on hand to answer any questions that I had and to support me in my weight loss goals. After much trial and error, I finally found a few programs that I now believe in. If you're tired of supplements and drugs and you don't want to screw up your metabolism then I suggest you give these programs a try. I've now lost a little over ten pounds in the last month and pretty much reached my weight loss goal. I finally now feel "celebrity skinny" and I guess I just wanted to let people know that there are programs out there that work and not to give up trying to reach your weight loss goals. You can look as good as you want to. Below are the three that I recommend. I know that they were both having a Valentine's Day special the last time I looked, so check them out today! Good Luck! Water-Saving Ways
by cherie aleong - Tuesday, 4 March 2008, 03:38 PM
Anyone in the world

By Michelle Hancock We turn on the tap and there it is: water. This liquid of life nourishes our environment, our crops, and our bodies. But there are fears for the future of our water supply. Planners warn that good quality water could become the worlds most sought-after resource. The average Canadian household releases about 691 kg of water pollutants annually, according to recent research by the David Suzuki Foundation. As contamination threats continue, our water quantity is diminishing. A 2003 report by Statistics Canada into the nations freshwater resources notes how since 1850and especially in the last 50 yearsabout 1,300 of our glaciers have lost 25 to 75 percent of their mass. Along the Rocky Mountain eastern slope, glacier coverage is decreasing rapidly and is now the lowest it has been in 10,000 years. Canadians are the second largest water consumers in the world. Recent statistics show each Canadian uses 1,471 cubic metres of water annually, while each American uses 1,870 cubic metres. Watering yards and gardens accounts for 14 percent of our annual household water use. In the summer months, this jumps significantly, making outdoor water conservation essential to preserving and protecting our precious resource. Common sense measures, such as taking showers instead of baths and only doing full laundry loads, can also make a big difference. When it comes to water, lets make our philosophy: Waste not, want not. For great water-preserving tips, check out the following resources: davidsuzuki.org, The Green Guide by the David Suzuki Foundation
savingwater.org, The Saving Water Partnership Water-Friendly Lawn Care Turning your lawn into that perfect blanket of green can come at a cost. Summer water consumption increases by 50 percent, putting stress on local lakes, rivers, and reservoirs at a time of year when water flows are naturally low. The good news is a few basic steps can go a long way toward maintaining water-conscious greenery. Greg Seaman, founder of eartheasy.com and long-time ecological thinker, has these tips: Choose a Locally Adapted Grass Grasses vary in their preferred climates, amount of water and nutrients required, shade tolerance, and the degree of wear they can withstand. Ask your local garden centre to recommend a grass best adapted to your area. Mow Often, but Not Too Short Giving your lawn a Marine cut isnt doing it a favour. Surface roots become exposed, the soil dries out faster, and surface aeration is reduced. Dont cut off more than one-third of the grass at any one time. Most turf grass species are healthiest when kept between 2 and 3 inches in height. Water Deeply, but Not Too Often Thorough watering encourages your lawn to develop deep root systems that make the lawn hardier and more drought resistant. Let the lawn dry out before rewatering; the colour should dull, and footprints should stay compressed for more than a few seconds. The best time for watering is early morning because less water will be lost to evaporation. Creating Vacation Memories
by cherie aleong - Monday, 3 March 2008, 07:57 PM
Anyone in the world

By Rachel Paxton My daughter and I recently had the opportunity to spend a week at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. We were totally overwhelmed with all the things there were to do, and I had no idea how we would ever be able to remember it all. We decided to put together a scrapbook of our Disney World memories. We wanted this to be as inexpensive as possible, while at the same time creative. Before we left on our trip my husband's mom gave us some scrapbook pages she got from our local craft store that already had Disney World characters and themes throughout them. So we knew we wanted to put together a scrapbook of some kind. While visiting the Animal Kingdom in Disney World, we were browsing through one of many gift shops, gawking at the incredibly high prices. While looking through the photo albums I happened upon some discontinued scrapbooks that were marked down 50% to only $8! I couldn't believe our luck. It was spiral-bound with animal designs imprinted on every page. Perfect. So we brought home the album, photos we had taken, and we already had scrapbooking pages to liven it up a bit, but it needed something else. I had also saved whatever memorabilia I could think of, like plane tickets, the credit cards you get to open your hotel door, the meal vouchers we had received, our luggage tags, post cards, and our theme park passes. All of these items combined (with a little imagination and some glue!) make up a very inexpensive memory (less than $20 total) that will last a lifetime. Botox Cosmetic: What You Need to Know
by cherie aleong - Friday, 29 February 2008, 10:24 PM
Anyone in the world

By Ellen Daniels Botox has become one of the most popular treatments for reducing
wrinkles, frown lines, and crow's feet. In addition Botox has
been found to be effective in treating migraine headaches,
excessive sweating, and muscle spasms in the neck. Botox has soared in popularity in recent years and last year botox
injections were given to over 2 million Americans.
Botox is the short name for something called botulinum toxin.
Botulinum Toxin Type A is a protein produced by the bacterium
Clostridium botulinum. When used in medical settings as an
injectable form of sterile, purified botulinum toxin (Botox),
small doses of the toxin are injected into the affected muscles
and block the release of the chemical acetylcholine that would
otherwise signal the muscle to contract. The toxin thus
paralyzes or weakens the injected muscle. Doctors use a very
small dose of this toxin to help smooth wrinkles, creases in the
forehead, crow's feet around the eyes, and frown lines. Botox
was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in
1989 for the treatement of double vision and uncontolled eyelid
spasms. Botox has been been called today's "fountain of youth" since it was approved by
the FDA in 2002 for the reduction of frown lines. The injections
typically last for 3 to 4 months and then have to be repeated.
The most common adverse events following injection of Botox are
headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, blepharoptosis
(droopy eyelids) and nausea. Less frequent adverse reactions
(less than 3% of patients) include pain in the face, redness at
the injection site and muscle weakness. These reactions are
generally temporary, but could last several months. Because Botox is a prescription drug, it must be used carefully
under medical supervision. Botox "parties" may diminish the
seriousness of the procedure and if alcohol is served at these
parties it may worsen any bruising at the injection site. The
FDA has issued warning statements about botox "parties" and
recommends that botox injections be performed in a controlled
medical environment that is equipped to handle an emergency
situation. Ellen Daniels offers expert advice and articles on all aspects of Laser Hair Removal and Botox. THE Dating Secret You Must Understand
by cherie aleong - Thursday, 28 February 2008, 03:20 PM
Anyone in the world

By Stephen N. Want to know why you are unsuccessful with women? It might masquerade as shyness, nerves, neediness, lack of style, bad breath, or body odor. Want to know the real answer? Its simple and its true Insecurity I cover this in detail in my ebook, How To Get A Girlfriend, but for now lets accurately define security. Then, lets consider how this relates to being attractive. Lets also try to keep this simple, because this is a topic we cover at length in our products and consultations which takes time to get handled. Let me give you our definition of security: A willingness to accept myself as I am, strengths and weaknesses and then the determination to work towards a healthy ideal for myself. A man who is secure realizes his weaknesses, and then addresses them. Some weaknesses (better known as challenges) are tougher to handle than others. A patient, deliberate effort may have to follow. If a guy has bad breath, for example, is it because he just ate a dish filled with garlic or does he suffer from gingivitis? If its the garlic causing the problem, his problem is easily remedied by a bit of time and some mouthwash. If he has gingivitis or halitosis, the challenge becomes larger and will take more time to surmount. (Although, he should carry some Cool Mint Listerine PocketPaks with him at all times) A guy who is secure with himself likely never encounters a challenge like bad breath, or if he does, he handles it right away. An insecure guy will be too lazy to take the action, or will unconsciously reject the reality that he has bad breath. His fragile self-esteem will not accept the information, thus he continues to create bad impressions on other people due to his own unwillingness. This mini-example can translate to virtually any challenge which we encounter through our lives. Most guys live lives that are so out of balance, that a woman might initially like you, but when she eventually sees the chaos that follows you around (whether it be bad breath, flailing friendships, insecurity, lack of focus, endless hours surfing the web, messy apartment, the list goes on) she will never really see you as a viable companion because she knows, intuitively, and biologically, that you are not a man in the truest sense. You are not someone who can provide securitythusly you are not attractive to her. Here is where we separate the men from the boys. The boys right now are thinking, This is a load of BS. A bunch of feel good jargon. This will never work for me. They are right, it never will until they decide to face their lives and live like a man. A man sees this and realizes that it is time, now, to step up to the plate and take responsibility. He sees that he can get what is rightfully his. That time is now. Women are seeking a man who is secure with himself, and is able to provide it to her consistently. These men reflect it with everything they do they always seem to be in control, they are sensitive to the needs of the moment, they rise to the occasion, they have a focused purpose in their life, and are comfortable in their own skin. Their life naturally validates them internally, and thusly, they feel complete. They are attractive, naturally. So, when you give that guy the ten magically perfect things to say to a woman, he only needs five, and even then he has overdone it Let me be clear I am not saying that you have to be rich or to have fully realized all of your goals in order to be successful with women. What I am saying is that it is critical to be on the path pursuing your goals. Men who live with passion and direction are magnets for women because they are attractive. Quality women are desperate for men whose lives are focused, balanced, and filled with purpose. In conclusion!: The Single Most Perfect Piece Of Advice That I Can Give You Is: You Must Get Your Life In Order And Moving Forward To Have Anything Close To A Meaningful Relationship With A Quality Woman. Antiques and Reproductions: Can You Tell the Difference?
by cherie aleong - Wednesday, 27 February 2008, 09:48 PM
Anyone in the world

By Martin Swinton Can you tell the difference between an antique and a reproduction? Does it really even matter? Theres nothing wrong with good quality reproductions. You just want to make sure that you know thats what you are getting. Here are some tips to help you tell them apart. Wood. Antiques tend to not be made using one type of wood. Why? It simply didnt make economic sense to use expensive wood such as mahogany in areas where no one would ever see it. Thats why the bottoms of drawers and joints of antiques might have lesser quality woods such as pine, maple. Reproductions tend to be made top-to-bottom from one wood and can be heavily stained to hide a poor quality wood. Check the underside, if the wood seems the same throughout the piece, it may be new. Upholstery stuffing. Up until late early 20th century, horsehair and hay were used to stuff upholstered furniture. Synthetics such as foam were introduced around 1920s. Keep in mind that the horsehair or hay may have been replaced in an antique during an earlier reupholstering. Its not necessarily bad, its just no longer in original condition. Signs of wear. Do the signs of wear make sense? An antique chair will show increased signs of wear at the end of the arms where the hands would naturally rest more so than underneath the arm. If the wear is consistent through the piece, its likely a reproduction that has been distressed to appear old. Signs of age. Look for signs of cracks caused by shrinkage. They indicate that the wood has expanded and contracted over time. This is normal for an antique. Antique marble. To find out if the marble is original to an antique, check the back of the piece. If the cut line at the back is jagged, the marble is likely original to the piece. In the 18th century, the tools to cut marble straight were not yet available. If the marble is smoothly cut, its likely post 18th century. Hand carving. Run your finger along the carving. Is it bumpy or smooth? Hand carving is uneven and asymmetrical. Machine carving is smooth and symmetrical. Dovetailing. Handmade 18th century dovetails are large and uneven. Machine-made dovetails are thin and even. Construction. Phillips screws, staples and fiberboard are all tip-offs to reproductions. On antiques with large surfaces (tables, trunks, armoires), furniture makers used wide boards with an uneven width. Reproductions use narrow boards with an even width. Gluing. On older pieces, cabinetmakers would reinforce glued joints with dowels, mortise and tenon etc. to ensure that they were good and sturdy. Poor quality reproductions will often only be glued which down the road will lead to them falling apart. Slip a piece of paper between the joints to see if it is reinforced. Hardware. Vintage hardware has patina. It doesnt have a lacquer finish to protect it from tarnishing and it isnt shiny and new looking. Rebuilt/refurbished/reproductions. Rebuilt furniture has some new elements added to it such as new shelves, backs on an armoire. Its common in a lot of French country furniture around today. Refurbished furniture has been restored. Either the wood has been refinished or the upholstery, caning, rushing replaced. Reproductions have no old aspects. They are completely new. Whether something is rebuilt, refurbished or a reproduction is not necessarily a negative, just as long as you are know that youre not buying an antique in original condition. Insert caning versus hand caning. Inset caning (post 1900) has a spine bordering the caning. Hand caning (pre-1900) doesnt have a border. Every now and then, hand-caned pieces were converted to inset caning when a hand-caner was not to be found. Check the underside of the piece to see if its been converted. The underside will reveal a series of holes that were used for the hand caning. Buying reproductions. Buying good quality reproductions eliminates the frustration of hunting for the right piece. Having something custom made ensures you get exactly what you want. For example, the narrow dimensions of antique armoires 15 to 17 inches dont suit todays electronic equipment. Some dealers, including myself, do offer custom reproductions to overcome this predicament. Buying antiques. The good news about antiques is they can be less expensive than reproductions because youre not paying for materials and labor costs at todays prices. Plus, each antique has a history. The patina, nicks and bangs on antiques reveal a full life of use just as the wrinkles on the face of an elderly person reveal a life that has been fully lived. Imprisoned Thoughts
by cherie aleong - Tuesday, 26 February 2008, 08:02 PM
Anyone in the world

By Jessica Parker It is said that there is a cause and effect relationship for everything happening on this earth. Have you ever wondered, what are the effects of loneliness? I don't know, for I have never been lonely. Yes, if ever I am alone, I am always in the company of my thoughts. I guess we all are. When we are lonely, we tend to think about numerous aspects of our lives and try to sort out every its and bits of it. But there are some people who do not have anything to think about. Their lives are braced within the gloomy corners of high walls. Their thoughts too are imprisoned along with their body. That's true. I am talking about our friends in prison. It is commonly seen that people living within a group tend to become friends after some point of time. However that does not explain why people staying in prison reach out for pen-pals. Perhaps it is due to an intense desire to express themselves to people outside. It is due a deep desire to keep strings attached to the normal civilized society. They want to be a part of the normal world which has barred them. A recent study shows that prisoners seeking pen-pals generally seek someone from the opposite genders as their friend. Men usually seek kind hearted and matured woman who are willing to listen to their agonies and sufferings. This can be attributed to normal human attraction to members of opposite sex which they are deprived of in prison. But the fact remains that they look for someone who would be there to listen to their agonies and sufferings and not for sharing romantic notes. In fact they want women who would nurture them with motherly tenderness. Researches show that though most prison inmates avoid talking about their crimes they openly admit everything before their pen-pals. To us, prison pen-pals are exciting. Befriending a prison inmate is a kind of interesting hobby and the experience is quite thrilling to us. But, to a prison friend, it is a window. It is a window for setting free their caged soul. It is a communication with the outside world where he once belonged. It is an interaction to the world where he has left one half of his soul. It is more like talking to a part of himself. It is interesting to note that when two people date each other, their main intention is to impress their partners and thereby they hide their true inner self. But while writing to a pen-pal, the buddies expresses their mind and open their souls. That is perhaps the reason why most pen-pal relationships often end up in marriage. However the old practice of making pen-pals have taken a back seat with the advent of social-networks and blogs. The interaction here occurs at a more familiar level. But the charm of interacting with a complete stranger is somewhat missed.
Recent researches show that people befriending prison inmates too happen to be lonely and troubled in their personal lives and thereby are eager to share their loneliness with somebody. Prisoners are a social outcast. Most of the time, their marriages break and they are deserted by their family and friends. To quote a prison friend,
Family and others went away with yesterday's sunset.
Few kind words do provide them some solace and peace. A letter from outside world means lot to them. To our prison friends, a letter is like a glimpse of rainbow in a misty sky. It is like a dewdrop in a desert. It is their anchor for emotional survival. Jessica Parker writes on friendships that are broken, relationships that are estranged, religions that are extinct. She explores long lost aspects of life and wishes to express them. she finds, 123Greetings.com to be a nice way of expressing her long cherished thoughts.
