Sustainable Philanthropy: Microloan Collective Lending Brings Self-Sufficiency & Independence
by cherie aleong - Monday, 16 June 2008, 08:17 PM
Anyone in the world

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Soni_Pitts]Soni Pitts "J" is a smart man. He is also a very poor man in a developing African country, with a family to feed, an inadequate housing situation and not a lot of opportunities. However, with just a few dollars "J" could set up a small shop that would bring in enough money to support himself and his family, with enough left over to begin saving for a better home. The only problem is, a few dollars might as well be a million to "J" given the state of the local economy. That's where you come in. Instead of denying and backing away from the title "rich Westerner," why not embrace it and use it to do some good? Even if you don't feel rich in comparison to the Jones', when compared to the "J's" of the world you're Croesus in a spiffy suit. And it really doesn't take that much to do a world of good. How much? How about $25.00? That's the minimum contribution to [http://www.kiva.org/index.php]Kiva, a new peer-to-peer microloan project that enables those of us who have been fortunate enough to be born into a relatively wealthy, first-world situation to help those whose fortune didn't pan out so well. The concept is simple: First, you sign up for and "purchase" a piece of a loan via Pay Pal a credit card. Kiva then combines that purchase with money from others to make short-term loans to needy African entrepreneurs. The beneficiary sets up shop (or whatever) and pays the loan back. After the entire loan is repaid, you get your money back (no interest is paid to donors, although interest may be charged to the beneficiary of the loan to help defray costs), at which time you can opt to take your money out, re-loan it, or donate it to Kiva to either cover administration costs or to be added into a growing permanent loan pool, whichever you choose. Of course, Kiva does due diligence research before adding prospective loan recipients to the pool and all of the money you put in goes toward the loan process - Kiva's low overhead is covered by interest charges (if any) on the loans, fundraising and donations. So far, Kiva's payback percentage has been 100%, although the microfinance industry average is 97% so there's always a chance, however small, that you won't get your money back. But the coolest part of the whole process is that you get ongoing monthly updates about the person or business your money is helping. You get to see the good you're doing. You can be a part of the conversation, as well, by posting a comment on the site's update center. Comments are reviewed by staff and passed onto the business, if appropriate. So what's stopping you? Go on now - it's only $25. What's that these days, for a rich Westerner? A haircut? Dinner out? A Dixie Cup of gas? Whatever it is, it isn't much. But for a poor but motivated African entrepreneur, it's the chance of a lifetime to make a lifetime's worth of change. Embroidery Types Do You Know Them
by cherie aleong - Thursday, 12 June 2008, 05:19 PM
Anyone in the world

By Debra Fernandez The use of decorative stitching to produce unique, beautiful and spiritual designs on personal belongings has been practiced by man since he learned the ability to use a needle and thread. In fact, evidence has been found that decorative stitching, also known as embroidery, was practiced as early as 3000 BC by people of many different and unrelated cultures. Through the years, each culture refined their embroidery techniques and each became more elaborate and more defined by the particular culture in which they were practiced. For example: Western Europe produced an embroidery technique called crewel which is still popular today. This type of embroidery uses two-ply wool stitching on linen twill to produce intricate artwork for bedcovers, wall hangings, chair coverings and draperies. Egyptians, on the other hand, practiced white embroidery using only white thread on a white canvas. These stitches were so detailed and intricate that few can mimic them today even with the added advantage of new technology and the use of embroidery machines. China perfected the amazing art of two-sided embroidery. Using fine silk, this embroidery is extremely intricate and can take years to complete. Today, the amount of readily available embroidery information that is shared world-wide has made it possible for embroiderers to learn the art of many different embroidery techniques and not just those of their own culture. Even though this may be the case, embroidery is still largely defined by culture and the spirituality of the people who choose to express themselves using artful stitching. But there are some types of embroidery that cross all social barriers. Here are just a couple. Cross stitching. Cross stitching is perhaps the most popular form of embroidery to be found all over the world today. This type of embroidery utilizes counted x-shape stitches which are patterned together to form a picture. The invention of cross-stitch software has made this ancient craft even more enjoyable and easier to learn for people who want to learn to cross-stitch embroider. Canvas work. Canvas work is embroidery which is done using a canvas. Canvases can be of varying types including single thread, double thread, Aida cloth and Hardanger. Different yarns or threads are also used for this type of embroidery and can range from knitting yarns and tapestry wools to pure silk. In this type of embroidery, the canvas is completely covered with decorative needlework. Of course, there are many more different types of embroidery and each one of them is beautiful and appealing to different people for different reasons. If you are just looking into the possibilities of embroidery, perhaps cross stitching would be the best type of embroidery on which to hone your skills. But if you are more advanced, perhaps you should study one of the more intricate types of embroidery to be found in every corner of the world. By Debra F.

Trim Kids - Weight Loss for Children and Teens
by cherie aleong - Sunday, 8 June 2008, 10:42 AM
Anyone in the world

By Brodie Heinrichsen Todays parents are fighting an up hill battle that their parents didnt have to worry or think about during their childhood. When todays parents were kids, there wasnt a computer, or video games, nor cable TV channels, and few fast food restaurants. In their time most kids spent their days riding their bikes, climbing trees, and playing tag. At dinner time the family came together at the kitchen table, and ate a home cooked meal. The world has certainly taken a 180 turn with this generation of children. Having an overweight child presents particular challenges encouraging the child to move, addressing consumption of junk food, and all the while still trying to build the childs self esteem. Helping an overweight child is far from an easy task. The Trim Kids Program
Trim Kids is an excellent 12 week plan that addresses virtually every challenge faced with an overweight child, pre-teen, or teenager. It is one of the best if not the best programs and guides to arrive in the recent years. This program appeared for the first time in a book written by Melinda Southern. Trim Kids has been tested on more than 1000 children and teens, and was found to be successful. Nutrition and exercise is not all the Trim Kids program focuses on it also addresses behavioral issues that led to the childs weight problems. The program has a 10 week meal plan exclusively prepared and suitable for children. Recently Trim Kids has acquired a partnership with eDiets. Meal plans can now be personalized and accesses instantly at the Trim Kids on line program. Highly Recommended. Exercise Ideas for Children
Exercise is not the only way to burn calories they are burned through activity. Trim Kids gives many superb ideas to get your child to move: Does your child have a favorite television show? Of course they do allow your child to watch their favorite television show on the condition that they have to stand up and dance or move around the duration of every commercial. If your child shrugs you off or refuses, simply turn off the TV. If your child is watching a video or DVD, explain to them you are going to pause the movie every 30 minutes so they can walk around the block or do some abdominal crunches. If they argue, no more movie. Take your child shopping with you whether it is the mall or convenient store park at the far end of the lot and walk to the store. If there is a cart involved while shopping such as with groceries have your child push the cart. When finished with the cart both of you can return to the cart to its designated area. Do you have one of those teenagers who will never get off the phone? Tell your child they can talk as long as they are walking. This will more than likely require a cordless phone or cell phone but it will be worth the investment. The moment your child sits down, the conversation ends. Its obvious that you cannot monitor your child at all times, but what you can do is make surprise visits to make sure your child is still moving. Another option is to have your child walk the length of your house so theyll keep popping up where you are. Remember, if your child sits down the conversation is over. Parents, it cannot be stressed enough that this will require a lot of patients from you. The work must come from both ends if you wish your child to succeed. The first time you give in to your child and allow them to break the rules you have just made it that much more difficult. This program comes highly recommended and is probably the very best program designed to help children lose weight. With the addition of the online program and partnership with eDiets and all their free tools there should be no excuse for having a child that is overweight with these options available. Building Buzz for your Club with Online Reviews
by cherie aleong - Wednesday, 4 June 2008, 05:39 AM
Anyone in the world

By Bob Nicholson Most club owners know that the best marketing tool is good buzz, or word-of-mouth, and that bad word-of-mouth can quickly sink a club. Increasingly, word-of-mouth means discussions in chat rooms, postings on Internet forums, and reviews posted on rating websites. Studies show that the Internet is now the number one source of consumer information ahead of newspapers, TV, and even friends. In other words, when people think about trying a new club, they first do a web search to see what they can find. You may already be using the Internet to promote your club via your website, e-mail lists, and MySpace friends lists. You can control and target your own website and promotions, but you can't control what is said about you on other sites. So how can you be sure you're getting good buzz on the Internet, and prevent bad buzz? First, remember that managing customer impressions starts right in your club. Make sure that your staff is trained to handle service problems and complaints. A complaint that is resolved graciously and quickly can produce a satisfied and loyal customer; a problem that festers can produce an angry critic of your club. Next, be aware of what is being said about your club on the Internet. Regularly search for you club by name (as well as any nicknames that customers may give the club especially the uncomplimentary ones!) You'll probably be surprised at how many places your club is mentioned: MySpace pages, forums, blogs, band sites, DJ sites, community news sites and more. Also, use your favorite search engine to search for nightclub ratings and nightclub reviews sites, and bookmark them in your browser so you can check them regularly. There are several prominent national rating and review sites, but there may also be local sites in your area. To find the local sites, simply include the name of your city in the search; for example: nightclub ratings dallas or nightclub reviews dallas. Once you've found and bookmarked the review sites, check each to see if your club is listed, and the basic information (for example, type of music, hours, and location) is accurate. If the club is not listed, you should see if there is a way to add it yourself, to be sure the listing is accurate. If there are errors in the information, look for a way to contact the site operator with corrections. Finally, check the review sites, and the other sites you've found in your searches, to see what's being said about your clubs. Think of this as an opportunity to find out what your customers really think and say to one another good and bad. You'll sometimes find very negative reviews - perhaps even lies and defamatory comments. If a review is really damaging, you may contact the site operators to see if it can be removed. Very likely the answer will be "no." Review sites don't remove reviews, good or bad, unless they violate the site's rules. (If they did, there would be no negative reviews, and the sites would be pretty useless.) At this point, some business owners begin making threats of legal action. This is almost always a waste of time. Rating and review sites operate as public forums where people can post their opinions. The sites are protected by law, and they are not liable for the opinions posted there. The rating and review sites are often represented by the Electronic Frontier Foundation or the ACLU, so any legal battle will be very costly and almost certain fruitless so let's talk about what you can do instead of making threats. Fortunately, most review sites have a process for you to respond to reviews, and this is worthwhile. The tone of your response should be reasonable and positive. It's good to acknowledge the complaint (even if you believe it's false or exaggerated), and respond to it directly (especially if it's a valid complaint!). For example: "As the reviewer says, we've had some delays in the line on busy nights; we've added another person on the door to speed things up." "We were unaware of the problem in the restroom this reviewer is describing. Our staff checks the restrooms every hour, and we're available for immediate clean-up if a problem is reported." In other words, try hard to put the complaint to rest and sound like a good guy, making the person who wrote the bad review seem less credible. How about a bad review that says something you can't really respond to, like "this club sucks. The music stinks and it's filled with ugly people." In that case, simply talk up the club's positives: "I'm sorry the reviewer doesn't appreciate our music choices. Our club has grown more popular each year for the past three years, and won the 2005 DanceBeat award for best club in Philadelphia." Hopefully you won't need to deal with many negative reviews. Focus you energy on getting positive reviews on the web. Your best assets are you current customers. Your regular customers are likely to say good things about your club, so encourage them to write online reviews. First, visit the major rating sites, and find the URL (web address) of the page where your club is mentioned. Then: * Include the URL on your club flyers, and a link on your club's website ("Rate Club Paradiso at "). * If you have a MySpace friends list, or an e-mail list, you can use it to ask your customers to submit ratings and reviews. * Be sure that DJs, performers, promoters and staff associated with your club visit the rating sites and post reviews. When submitting reviews, ask your friends and customers to talk about the best features of the club, or good experiences they've had. Reviews that simply say "awesome club!" don't carry much weight with readers. Once you get some positive reviews and ratings on the web, publicize the fact! Include your ratings, and excerpts from reviews, in your ads, flyers, and website. Remember that people will talk about your club on the web; make sure you know what is being said! Top 5 Pointers for a Successful Date
by cherie aleong - Friday, 30 May 2008, 06:46 PM
Anyone in the world

By Irish Chua Here are five important tips to achieve a successful date I would like to share: Pointer #1 - Avoid dating occasionally. This result to what we call "dating fatigue". Dating is an continuous activity (until you find that perfect match) and so recharging your energies, building self-confidence and maintaining optimism levels high must be practiced. I advise that you schedule your date in time frames to regain your renewed vigor if necessary. Pointer #2 - ENJOY your date as much as possible Always strive to enjoy dating activities even if it shows signs of not being compatible with your date. Remember, this is one aspect of socializing and grab the opportunity by spending time in the company of new acquaintances who may or may not bring you a sparkle. The truth is, most people are interesting in a way and this may be the chance to look for new friends! Pointer #3 - Never divulge your entire being on a first date. Basically, we tend to be more interested with individuals who are mysterious and the thrill of the chase when dating. Therefore, if you are looking for a more serious relationship, sex is out of the agenda in a first date. As your date progress and the person starts to fall for you within a reasonable time, then there is a higher percentage that real love may bloom. Pointer #4 - Do join a quality Internet dating community Expand your network. Join quality dating sites wherein upon registration, the site gets extensive of not just your personal preferences but with the preferences you wanted from your ideal partner. Beware of dating sites that shows a lot of gorgeous girls but after joining you find that these are just dummy members. One of the dating sites that have caught my attention was this one: http://www.thesinglesnetwork.com, it gives you the option to choose any US state preference you plan to build your dating network. For those who wanted to go across the globe, there are dating domains from that site to choose from. But before looking for a foreign date, I advise you to study a brief culture background. Most of these relationships go down the drain due to culture incompatibility. Pointer #5 Expand your dating network and practice socializing skills Once you have set your network, take time and check your mail occasionally. Even if you never dated online, it is a start to boost your confidence and spirits, allowing you to practice your opening lines and conversation skills. Internet dating is really fun, adventurous and secure. It introduces you to the world of dating safely and gently. If you need more tips or advise please respond on this thread and I will try to help you with the best of my knowledge. Thanks! Antidepressants and Phototherapy
by cherie aleong - Wednesday, 28 May 2008, 07:33 AM
Anyone in the world

By Marcello Lanares Antidepressants are used commonly in medical and psychiatric practice. As a class, antidepressants have in common their ability to treat major depressive illness. Most antidepressants are also effective in the treatment of panic disorder and other anxiety disorders. Some antidepressants effectively treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and a variety of other conditions (see indications below). The most commonly prescribed antidepressants are listed in Table 12-1. Antidepressants are subdivided into groups based on structure or prominent functional activity: selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRls), tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOls), and other antidepressant compounds with a variety of mechanisms of action. Antidepressants are typically thought to act on either the serotonin or norepinephrine systems, or both. Choice of medications typically depends on diagnosis, history of response (in patient or relative), and the side-effect profile of the medication. Antidepressant effects are typically not seen until 2 to 4 weeks into treatment. Side effects must be carefully monitored, especially for TCAs and MAOls. Indications Table 12-2 lists the indications for antidepressants.
The main indication for antidepressant medications is major depressive disorder as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition (DSM-IV). Antidepressants are used in the treatment of all subtypes of depression, including depressed phase of bipolar disorder, psychotic depression (in combination with an antipsychotic medication), atypical depression, and seasonal depression. Antidepressants also are indicated for the prevention of recurrent depressive episodes. Antidepressant medications may be effective in the treatment of patients with dysthymic disorder, especially when there are clear neurovegetative signs or a history of response to antidepressants. Panic disorder with or without agoraphobia has been shown to respond to SSRls, MAOls, TCAs, and high-potency benzodiazepines (alprazolam and clonazepam). OCD has been shown to respond to the serotonin-selective tricyclic clomipramine (Anafranil) and to SSRIs at high doses (e.g., fluoxetine at 60-80mg/ day). Obsessions tend to be more responsive to pharmacotherapy than compulsions. Symptoms of OCD respond more slowly than symptoms of major depression. Trials of 12 weeks or more are needed before a medication can be ruled a failure for an OCD patient. The binging and purging behavior of bulimia has been shown to respond to SSRls, TCAs, and MAOls in several open and controlled trials. Because SSRIs have the most benign side-effect profile of these medications, they are often the first-line psychopharmacologic treatment. Mechanisms of Action Antidepressants are thought to exert their effects at particular subsets of neuronal synapses throughout the brain. Their major interaction is with the monoamine neurotransmitter systems (dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin). Dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin are released throughout the brain by neurons that originate in the ventral brainstem, locus ceruleus and the raphe nuclei, respectively. These neurotransmitters interact with numerous receptor subtypes in the brain that are associated with the regulation of global state functions including appetite, mood states, arousal, vigilance, attention, and sensory processing. SSRls act by binding to presynaptic serotonin reuptake proteins, thereby inhibiting reuptake and increasing the levels of serotonin in the synaptic cleft. TCAs act by blocking presynaptic reuptake of both serotonin and norepinephrine. MAOls act by inhibiting the presynaptic enzyme (monoamine oxidase) that catabolizes norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin, thereby increasing the levels of these neurotransmitters presynaptically. These immediate mechanisms of action are not sufficient to explain the delayed antidepressant effects (typically 2 to 4 weeks). Other unknown mechanisms must play a role in the successful psychopharmacologic treatment of depression. Marcello Lanares, MD, PhD, is a program manager and adjunct associate professor at the University of Tel Aviv, Clinical and Experimental Medicine

The Attacks on Online Life Experience Degrees
by cherie aleong - Saturday, 24 May 2008, 10:00 AM
Anyone in the world

By Shubhanyu Jain It is not uncommon to find forums and discussion boards throwing huge balls of fire in the direction of life experience degrees. A person starts, and others follow suit like a herd. Truth is vastly stranger than fiction, someone once said. Know what? He wasn't lying. Truth is indeed much different from the general perception. The general perception of a life experience degree is a sham, and that of the providing institution, a diploma or a degree mill. This is because of the numerous other institutions who take thousands of dollars and then, too, the quality of education is nothing. Almeda earns a diploma mill' name plate on the sole premise that as this is also online, this offers a degree without any lectures whatsoever, so this must also be a scam - far from it. Almeda does not conduct any examination because it does not need to conduct examinations to award a degree based on experience. Get a hang of it; how do you think you can measure practical experience in practical terms? Being a fully online degree system, all the university can do is to verify the documents you submit to prove your worthiness. But Almeda goes a step further; Almeda University asks the candidate to write a thesis or dissertation before awarding the degrees. Again, if you write a thesis faking your cat's credentials and somehow manage to get a degree for your cat, in effect, it would be only a human (you) who secured the degree - since your cat can't write, you did - and most definitely NOT on your cat's behalf. So why attack EVERY online life experience degree institution? If you have so strong views, why not do something about it in a recognizable manner? Pluck out the bad from the good, can't you? Nah! You'd better just sit in the confines of your computer table and opine like you knew all. Starbucks Green Tea Frappachinos, Can They Prevent Cancer?
by cherie aleong - Wednesday, 21 May 2008, 05:07 PM
Anyone in the world

By Lance Winslow Starbucks now offers the Green Tea Frappachinos, yes I had one and they are very tasty indeed. We all know green tea helps prevent many types of cancer, not to mention a host of other things. Green Tea is very good for your body. Starbucks makes their green tea frappachinos with Green Tea powder derived from Green Tea Leaves. As you watch them blend your drink you will probably wonder if it will taste good, if it can really help. Well you are in luck on both accounts. Although it might be a little on the fattening side at least you know it is doing good things inside your body due to the green tea. New research seems to indicate that green tea does in fact protect our bodies from getting cancer. Well few of these things are as good as green tea researchers say, of course the Chinese have been saying it for 10,000 years. A brand new research now shows that the phytochemicals in green tea are absolutely incredible. Something that the Asian cultures have known throughout their history, in fact it is quite well known that green tea is known to prevent many forms of cancer such as; Ovarian cancer, Pancreatic cancer, Colon cancer, Lung cancer and Breast cancer. Some say that if green tea was a medicine or drug it would be considered more of a wonder drug than most other cancer drugs. Green tea is considered by many to be a powerful herb, which is wise to incorporate into our diets. There are presently no known side effects for green tea, yet it appears to be one of the most incredible anti-cancer compounds around. And now you can get it as a Frappachino. Life is good isnt it. Graphic Design & Branding - 3 Marketing Tips From a Pro
by cherie aleong - Monday, 19 May 2008, 09:43 AM
Anyone in the world

By Kate Garvey Branding is the creation of a name, name layout and symbols or designs working together to represent a company. Good branding creates a lasting first impression that is unique and easily identifies your company. Ideally, branding should catch the consumers eye, make a good impression and provide potential consumers information about the services offered. A couple of well known corporations that effectively use branding are McDonalds--think golden arches and Macintosh--an apple with a missing bite. Even if your company is small or just forming, you still want to begin name recognition by incorporating branding during the early stages of business. When working with a graphic designer to create effective company branding, be sure to think about the whole picture. Please consider the following: 1. Your company name should inform the general public about your business. If you havent decided on a company name, take some time to think about all the services or products you sell or will be selling, and brainstorm names that will clearly identify what you do. Some good examples are Petsmart, Rooms to Go, Famous Footwear, and Carnival Cruises, etc. All of these companies use names that clearly identify what they do. They also provide a theme on the business. For example, smart consumers shop for pet needs at PetSmart, people in a hurry wanting a put-together look in furniture are drawn to Rooms to Go, when you need shoes buy the best at Famous Footwear, if you want to have a whole lot of fun, dont just go on a cruise, go on a Carnival Cruise. 2. Keep your name and company design simple. Your company name should always be easy to read. Any symbols or logos, should support the name and not detract from it. Increase your awareness of how major corporations make it easy to read their company name and how the symbols used support the name. You can use the name to evoke a feeling, but it needs to be legible. For example Ashley Furniture uses an elegant style in their branding, whereas, Re/Max Real Estate uses an exciting bold look. 3. If you add a logo, symbol or picture, use something that will support your theme. If you run a catering business, its appropriate to have pictures of food or people celebrating with food. If own a fencing company, you may want to have part of your name appear with a fence-like texture. I realize this sounds obvious, but many times new business owners incorporate pictures that are personal and do not support their business. Dont include your childs picture, a pet photo, or family pictures, unless you own a business that services these areas. Try to be very objective about your logo or symbol. Does it really portray your business in the best possible way? It may be helpful to consult with a graphic designer at the preliminary stage of your business development. They may be able to show samples that will help feed your creative juices. Kate Garvey is a professional, freelance writer and may be reached at www.kategarvey.net . Selling Home-Grown Tea Herbs
by cherie aleong - Thursday, 15 May 2008, 09:57 AM
Anyone in the world

By Barbara Adams There are numerous ways to package dried herbal teas for sale, from tea-themed gift baskets to home spa tea collections. Also, they can be sold as individual live potted plants. These are usually for your customers' gardens, but some tea herbs can be grown on a windowsill or porch, or even on your customers' desks at work. Live potted plants ready to be placed in the customers gardens can also be sold in themed packages, such as a collection for a summer iced tea postage stamp garden, or as a collection for the customers own gift garden, where they grow tea to harvest and dry for gifts they give to family and friends. Harvested and dried herbs can be sold bulk as individual plants, or exclusive specialty blends can be created with your home businesss label. Herbal teas make great products to wrap with other related products into gift baskets, from simple herbal tea samplers to elaborate tea party gift baskets with the inclusion of resale items such as ceramic tea pots and infusers. Making direct contact with potential customers involves both allowing visitors to your gardens, or selling the herbs off the premises. For visitors, larger tea gardens can become healing sanctuaries themselves, where replicas of Japanese tea gardens or historical European herb gardens can be re-created. In the 18th century, popular coffee houses, which were then considered somewhat rough places where competitive business deals took place, began to give way to high-class tea gardens at the insistence of the ladies. Some of these gardens were almost visions of paradise, with lantern-lit walks, music, dancing, and where exotic landscapes allowed royalty and the common people to intermingle. A well-known tea garden of 1765, Ranelagh Gardens, hosted the nine-year-old Mozart as a performer. No local Mozart to invite? A commercial garden in Washington State hosts a local harpist every Mothers Day. For selling away from home, you can offer to host tea tastings for a fee. Benefits and other gatherings enjoy such services, especially if their people get to meet the actual farmer. Also, look for a listing of local tea houses. A teahouse the author inquired into even asked for edible flowers along with tea herbs. Stay safe, and keep potential customers safe. Check into all local regulations on safe harvest and storage, and know what can and cant be said as far as medicinal claims. These laws change, so make sure your information is recent. For example, St. Johns Wort was reportedly banned in France, while its production continues in other countries. In some cases, you can be allowed to describe health claims if an established research entity has made the claim, and you quote them. The non-profit Herb Research Institute, www.Herbs.org (HRI) may be of help in this area (see below). According to the HRI, scientific credibility is essential to bolster consumer confidence in herbs and for the continued growth of the industry. Since its founding in 1983, HRF has served as the central archive of scientific literature on the health effects and safety of botanicals and has developed the world's most comprehensive collection of clinical trials, pharmacology, toxicology, chemical, historical, and horticultural data on thousands of herbal ingredients. HRF's current collection consists of more than 300,000 articles. (c) 2006 Barbara Adams Barbara Adams
